Joy, Interest, and even Anger. Being a kid comes with a whole bunch of emotions - and the opportunity to learn how to deal with them. Read 11 books about emotions for kids

Studies have shown that there are 27 emotions that people will experience at varying times of their lives, with subtle variations and overlap depending on the context and situation.

For little ones, their range of emotions is much simpler. In their first year of life, their primary emotions like joy, interest, fear, anger, and sadness appear. And by the end of their second year, their secondary emotions (embarrassment, guilt, and shame) are usually expressed.

But just because their emotions are “simpler” than ours, doesn't make them any less significant - certainly not to them.

See, children are coming to terms with these feelings happening inside their hearts. They don't understand them, they certainly don't know how to express them (other than the mini-meltdown in the aisle of the local grocery store.

So as parents, we get to help them understand these emotions, and help them express them in a healthy manner - which, let’s face it, is hard in itself if we’re also navigating the complex web of emotions in our own lives.

But do not worry (that’s the anxiety one of the twenty-seven emotions). Nooksy has a whole category of books about emotions for kids to help you talk about emotions with your little ones.
